One of the amazing things about God, our Father, is that he created everything “good” but he always sees in each of us something greater. While we live in a world that tells us we are no good, sub par, insufficient or not enough, God knows us and sees in all of us the potential for something far greater.

If you are anything like me, sometimes we his this level in our lives that tells us that we can’t achieve anything more. We have done our the best we will never be able to do more… And yet, every time I have a change of job or have a task that God is asking of me, it is always requiring more than what is in my wheelhouse. Ever notice that about God?

The more I follow God, the more he calls me out of my comfort zone so that I have to cry out to Him for help. We both know I am not capable of do what he is asking of me. THAT is why he does it. He wants me to learn (again) that success is found in union with Him and when I accomplish it, I am able see that I really “can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)

One Biblical Character that epitomizes this truth is Joshua, son of Nun. He was Moses’ minister and was called by God to replace Moses after his death.

“Deuteronomy 34:9 (RSVCE): “And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him; so the people of Israel obeyed him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.”

Can you imagine having to replace Moses. Besides John the Baptist there is no greater prophet of the Lord. I don’t know about you but that would be quite unnerving for me. I’m sure he felt the same and cried out to God for help. As we all would, if we were wise and not arrogant. (If we were arrogant, God would not have called us)

What is important to note is the advice God gives him so that he might succeed in fulling the role that God is asking of him. Joshua 1:8 (RSVCE): “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.”

Joshua recipe for success to place the word of God in the forefront of his mind and not only meditate on it daily but live it out daily. Would that the Church of Jesus Christ still on earth be doing that today. As we enter difficult times, God is calling each of us to rise up and lead others to Him.

Let us accept the call of God, clear away all the obstacles, and rise up Church and shine the light that gives sight to others. The world, despite their rejection of us, desperately needs us to show them the truth.
